Every Girl Deserves This Conversation!

This past weekend, Colour Their World Inc. proudly hosted our 2nd cohort of It's a Party, Period workshop. This nurse led educational event was designed to help girls approach menstruation with confidence, knowledge, and a sense of empowerment.
Planning events is nothing new to me and with each one, I just pray and hope that it all comes together like I envision.
What made the day even more special was seeing over 15 girls attend alongside their mothers, aunties, and caregivers, creating a supportive environment where learning and open conversation could flourish.
The workshop was led by Nurse Angela Walker, a healthcare professional with more than 20 years working experience in women's health. Through her compassionate and engaging approach, she guided these young ladies through age-appropriate discussions about puberty, menstrual health, hygiene, body changes, and self-care. Most importantly, she created a safe space where every question was welcomed and every participant felt heard.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the hands-on learning experience. I think I can comfortably say that everyone was able to correctly put on a pad and paty liner by the end of the workshop. Girls had the opportunity to see and handle menstrual products, learn how to use them properly, and ask questions without fear or embarrassment. By the end of the workshop, they walked away feeling informed, prepared, and more confident as they embark on this new chapter of their lives.
I'm incredibly grateful to our generous sponsors, Il Fornello for providing our lunch, A Women's Touch and HABO (Help A Girl Out), whose thoughtful donations helped us create meaningful swag bags for each participant. Their contributions ensured that every girl left with practical menstrual products and resources to support her journey beyond the workshop. Community partnerships like these make programs such as It's a Party, Period possible, and we sincerely thank them for investing in the health and well-being of young girls.
I know for a fact that while puberty and menstruation may be introduced in schools, many students do not have the opportunity to explore these topics in depth or ask the questions that matter most to them. I feel proud in knowing that I have now created a space where feelings of uncertainty, embarrassment, and misinformation will be eradicated. By providing a welcoming, judgment-free environment where trusted healthcare professionals and supportive caregivers can openly discuss these changes, I'm contributing to help replace fear with confidence and confusion with understanding.
To everyone who attended, volunteered, sponsored, and supported this initiative, from the bottom of my heart I thank you. Your presence helped make this event a tremendous success, and we are excited to continue this important work in our community.
We'll be hosting our next It's a Party, Period workshop this fall, so stay tuned for registration details!
I can't wait to welcome even more girls and caregivers as we continue creating safe spaces for learning, empowerment, and meaningful conversations.
