I AM WOMAN!

I AM WOMAN!

This month I was honored with an invitation from Lianne Hannaway, CEO of the Black Business and Professional Association (BBPA), to attend an event hosted by the prestigious Canadian Club Toronto. The Canadian Club has long been a forum where the country’s thought leaders, innovators, and newsmakers converge to discuss critical issues and share ideas that shape our nation's future. It’s a space for growth, understanding, and connection—a true platform for those ready to make an impact. Being invited to participate in this incredible experience is something I deeply appreciated.

I look back on the past 10 years of my life and realize this was truly by God's design. Working in the dental field for over 20 years, thinking that it would all end there. You know, I'd be lying to myself if I told you at times I didn't think that there had to be more than what was my 'normal'. I was married, had four children and still felt empty. How could I have been so selfish to not be grateful for what I had; there were women who would have dreamed of having the opportunity to bring a child into the world, yet alone to have a family. To think years before I was one of those women who was told that she couldn’t have anymore children. Well, we all know how that turned out.

I'm so happy that I took a chance on ME! Running a home and business simultaneously is not for the faint at heart, I can tell you that much, but it is oh so worth it. In just two years in business, I've accomplished so much. All in wanting to ensure that I take up space in the literary world.

As the recipient of the Rise Up Pitch Challenge, I’ve had the privilege of being able to amplify my passion for literature, creativity, and community-building. Winning the competition has opened doors to opportunities I hadn’t imagined, providing me with a platform to share not only my love for children’s literature, but also my commitment to fostering diverse, educational, and inclusive spaces. It's moments like these that remind me why I embarked on this journey—to give voice to stories that need to be heard and to nurture a sense of belonging for all.

The Canadian Club Toronto represents a gathering of minds and visionaries, and being invited to share in that forum fills me with a renewed sense of purpose. I am grateful to Lianne Hannaway and the BBPA for their ongoing support of entrepreneurs like myself, who are working to contribute to Canada’s cultural and economic landscape in meaningful ways.

Every opportunity I receive, whether it's pitching my ideas, meeting inspiring individuals, or attending events like this, is a step toward building a more inclusive and connected future. And I look forward to the continued journey of sharing my love of literature with the world and giving back to the communities that have supported me along the way.
