Door Open Toronto 2026!

There is something truly special about community. It is the foundation that constantly reminds me that small businesses, entrepreneurs, families, and dreamers alike aren’t meant to grow alone.
The month of May has been a beautiful reminder of the power of collaboration, connection, and believing in the possibilities that can come from showing up authentically.
Back story for you.
Last year, I completed an application for the Love Local Program. I essentially had to select a week that I would be available to showcase my company at the Billy Bishop Airport. I completed this application like I do many others, prayed about it and put it off to the way side. Well, let’s be real. Could you imagine how many people applied for this?
As a small business, I’ve often encountered opportunities that appear exciting at face value. However, over time, I learn that not every opportunity wasn’t meant to define my journey.
Sometimes the most important thing I can do is enter spaces without expectation, stay true to the vision and mission I have and allow relationships to develop naturally.
That’s why I LOVE a good networking event!
Attending events like these have allowed me to see that the right partnerships have a way of confirming that my work truly matters.
That is exactly how I feel about being part of the Love Local program and the incredible opportunity it has provided Colour Their World to collaborate with Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.
So yes I was accepted! I fulfilled my week obligation, Coincidentally enough it was during the Blue Jays World Series.
I met so many people and sold a substantial amount of product, but what came after I did not expect. I left there just being grateful for the opportunity.
Weeks later I was approached to partner with the airport to create an aviation themed activity book for children.
This partnership has been both humbling and affirming. It has solidified that the work I’m doing through literacy, representation, and educational products is relevant and impactful. To see my company connected with such a respected Toronto landmark is a reminder that community support can open doors in ways we may never imagine.
Which leads me to the ‘Door this has Opened’ for me!
This weekend, Colour Their World will be participating in Doors Open Toronto taking place on Saturday, May 23.
Doors Open Toronto is one of the city’s most beloved annual events, inviting the public to explore buildings, spaces, and institutions across Toronto free of charge. The event gives families and residents behind-the-scenes access to places they may never normally have the chance to experience. Since its launch in 2000, millions of visitors have participated, making it one of the largest events of its kind in Canada.
This year’s theme, “The World in a City,” celebrates Toronto’s diversity and global connections as the city prepares to welcome visitors for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026. With the world’s eyes turning toward Toronto in the coming weeks, there is no better time to showcase the creativity, culture, and innovation that exist within our communities.
The airport alone will welcome well over 10,000 people, especially children. The very said children that will be introduced to spaces like emergency services, transportation hubs, media organizations, and historical landmarks.
THIS IS EXPOSURE AT ITS BEST!
For some children, simply seeing an airport maintenance vehicle, speaking with aviation professionals, or witnessing the inner workings of an airport operation can spark a dream they never knew was possible.
THIS IS WHY YOU NEED TO COME ON DOWN!
Remember learning doesn’t only happen in classrooms. It happens through exploration, curiosity, and lived experiences.
I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have our books, educational materials, and products shared with families and visitors from all walks of life. Most importantly the aviation themed activity book that we designed for the airport.
We would like to extend an open invitation to families, supporters, and members of the community to join us this Saturday at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport for Doors Open Toronto. The event will run throughout the day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering fun, education, and exploration for visitors of all ages.
Thank you Nieuport Aviation and Tabia for this wonderful opportunity.
