Connecting Hearts and Minds
Share
Hello, lovely readers! My name is Erica London, and I am thrilled to welcome you to my monthly blog, 'Between the Lines'. As the founder of Colour Their World, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share with you the inspiration behind this new venture.
First and foremost, let me say that my passion for engaging and connecting with parents and communities runs deep. My journey into this realm began with a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of children through my literature, and it has evolved into a lifelong mission to support and uplift families in any way I can.
One question that frequently crosses my mind is, "How can we, as parents, educators, and community members, stay engaged and connected in a world that often pulls us in different directions?" This question has been the driving force behind the creation of 'Between the Lines'. I believe that by sharing our stories, experiences, and insights, we can build a stronger, more connected community.
Now, let me share one of my most recent and heartwarming achievements. September 9, 2023 I had the privilege of hosting a baby shower for over 22 pregnant asylum seekers. It was a beautiful and emotional event, filled with love, laughter, and tears of gratitude. I was supported by various local businesses, common citizens, and churches throughout the GTA.
We received droves of clothing, diapers, wipes, and items that both mom and baby would need. Every fine detail was put in place to ensure that each mother felt a piece of 'home'. Seeing these incredible women come together to celebrate new life in the face of uncertainty was a powerful reminder of the strength of community and the importance of supporting one another. It was never my intent to have media present as this was not what it was about for me, but to shower these women with love. However, having City News, The Toronto Star, and The Caribbean Camera cover the event has highlighted the ongoing need, of which we were grateful for.

You see, connecting with the community goes far beyond my children's books and school presentations. While those avenues are essential for sparking curiosity and imagination in young minds, I've found that the most profound connections are forged through acts of kindness and goodwill. Whether it's organizing events like the baby shower or simply lending a helping hand to a neighbor in need, I believe that we can all make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Through this monthly blog, I hope to share my experiences, thoughts, and insights on a wide range of topics, from parenting and education to community engagement and social impact. I want this space to be a platform for open and honest discussions, where we can learn from each other and grow together.
So, dear readers, I invite you to join me on this journey of connection and discovery. Let's explore the importance of keeping parents engaged and connected in today's fast-paced world. Let's celebrate the power of community and the joy of making a difference in the lives of others. Together, we can truly "colour their world" with love, compassion, and shared experiences.
If you feel inspired to contribute and support the pregnant mothers in our community by donating baby clothing or items, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at colourtheirworld2020@gmail.com. We'd be delighted to arrange pick-up or drop-off options for your generous donations.
Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of these expecting mothers. Thank you for your kindness and generosity and for being a part of this beautiful journey. I look forward to connecting with you in the coming months and sharing the many stories and adventures that lie ahead.
Warmly,
Erica London
